2006 Teaching Residency and Internship Programs
3. Apply Online Interested candidates must fill out an online application. A complete online application includes:
The completed online application form requires the candidate’s GPA and certification information. Therefore, it is extremely important to make sure all information on the online application and the supporting materials is correct as the offer of an interview will be based on these materials. Personal Statement Candidates must submit a personal statement on urban education. The personal statement should be no longer than 500 words and address the following three questions. 1) What is your personal definition of urban education? 2) Why are you interested in teaching your subject in an urban environment? 3) What previous experiences will you use and what resources will you seek to ensure high academic achievement for your students in an urban classroom? Resume Candidates must submit a resume that outlines the candidate's educational profile, work history and teaching experiences. The resume must be in a clear, organized, logical structure and includes an original and insightful objective. The resume should highlight activities, leadership roles and skills related to the field of education. The resume should be created prior to applying online and saved in Word (.doc) or Adobe (.pdf) so it may be uploaded when completing the online application. Ideally, resumes should not exceed one page in length. 2. Request Transcripts If invited to interview, candidates will be required to submit two copies of their official university transcripts. Acceptance into the program is contingent upon receipt of these official transcripts. Often it takes universities several weeks to process transcript requests, therefore it is recommended that candidates put in their requests at the time they submit their online application. Transcripts will not be returned to the candidate after being submitted to CPS. 3. Interview (by invitation only) Outstanding candidates will be invited to a TRIP Interview Day within two weeks of applying to the program. The TRIP Interview Day will include teaching a lesson in a subject chosen by the candidate and a personal interview. The Teaching Residency and Internship Programs are highly competitive and have limited space. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that candidates apply early. Priority deadline for online applications: December 15, 2006 Final deadline for online applications: March 9, 2007. Candidates who apply by December 15, 2006 will interview early. All online applications must be received by March 9, 2007. Final notifications of acceptance status will be made by April 30, 2007. |
