CPS is committed to attracting the most competent student teachers from Chicago-area universities, as well as in-state and out-of-state schools of education, by offering support through the final phases of the traditional teacher preparation process. If you are enrolled in a traditional teacher preparation program and are interested in becoming a student teacher in CPS, you are required to obtain university approval, complete all the required coursework/clinical hours and be enrolled in a student teaching course before submitting your application to CPS. Application Process In order to apply to the CPS Student Teaching Program, you must complete an online application. There are four pieces to the application:
As a student teacher in CPS, you will not only receive guidance and mentoring from veteran CPS teachers, but will also benefit from priority hiring assistance from the CPS Recruitment Office. Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis. Candidates should receive an answer regarding their application to the program within four weeks of the receipt of their completed application. For example, if you submit an application on September 1, 2008, you should hear from the CPS Student Teaching Program by September 29, 2008.
