Program Overview
The Fellowship in Urban School Leadership is a paid school leadership experience. The fellowship program
is aligned to our Principal Competencies which are a holistic approach to instructional leadership. Focused on
instructional leadership, change management and data-driven decision making, the Fellowship experience includes:

  • Professional development through Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management
  • Principal mentor for each Fellow
  • CPS speaker series
  • Field trips and events
  • Networking opportunities with senior leadership

    Exploring Chicago

    Our mission is to provide a high-quality school leadership experience to candidates who
    demonstrate a commitment to urban school transformation and an interest in exploring all that
    Chicago has to offer.

    2008 Fellowship Program Dates
    Full Session:
               Sunday, July 6, 2008 to Friday, July 25, 2008
    2-Week Mini Session (for experienced principals only):
               Sunday, July 13, 2008 to Friday, July 25, 2008
    Deadline for Applications: February 28, 2008

    Benefits and Costs
    Each Fellow will receive a living stipend. Housing, a CTA transportation pass**, and admission to
    certain Chicago attractions are also provided. Spouses are welcome to share housing with the Fellow.

    In addition, Fellows will have the ability to meet and network with CPS top leadership, receive a CPS letter of recommendation and job search
    assistance once they have successfully completed the Fellowship and apply for employment in Chicago.

                                                                                                 **Transportation to/from Chicago and any other costs are the responsibility of the Fellow.

    Who Should Apply?
    The Fellowship is open to experienced and aspiring school leaders interested in administrative careers at CPS, and who demonstrate the following:

    • Commitment to high quality instruction for all students
    • Proven success in improving student achievement
    • Evidence of CPS principal competencies in prior experiences
    • Interest in working with students from various cultures and socio-economic backgrounds
    • Significant teaching experience
    • School leadership experience with current Type 75 or equivalent state administrative certificate…
    • OR
    • Enrolled in an accredited Educational Leadership program with department recommendation
