| Non-Teachers Step-By-Step Guide to Educational Support Personnel (ESP) Process Step 1 Visit http://www.cps-humanresources.org/Hronline/logon/ProspEmpLogon.asp to apply online. Step 2 Obtain an Online Staffing Request from the school. This is one of the most essential steps in the enrollment process. Inquire with the hiring principal or manager regarding the submission of your online Staffing Request for your position. Without the Staffing Request and budgeted position number, you will be unable to complete the enrollment process. Step 3 Download the enrollment forms from the Enrollment Unit website. Once you have made sure that your Staffing Request is online (either by calling the HR Employee Service Center-Enrollment Unit or verifying with the principal), download the enrollment forms from the Enrollment Unit website under New Hire Forms. Note: If you are being hired in one of the ESP Paraprofessional job titles listed below, please refer to our Education Requirements on the bottom of this page. Before visiting 320 N. Elizabeth, all ESP Paraprofessionals must visit the James R. Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph, Suite 14-200, Chicago, Illinois to obtain a No Child Left Behind Statement of Approval Form. The ESP Paraprofessional candidate needs 2 sets of transcripts (1 for Illinois State Board of Education and 1 for Chicago Public Schools). Step 4 Once you have all of the above documents and verification, you may visit the Employee Service Center – Enrollment Unit at 320 N. Elizabeth St., to be fully processed and staffed. Group Enrollment Sessions are held Monday - Friday and begin promptly at 9:00 a.m., 12:00 Noon and 3:00 p.m. Please be advised that if you arrive late to a session, you will have to wait for the start of the NEXT session. Please plan to arrive 30 minutes early to allow for your packed review. Please bring your Online Staffing Recommendation Confirmation Form (the principal should provide this to you) and the completed New Hire Packet with you. Please bring proper I-9 Identification. Examples include: Passport, Driver's License or State ID and SSN Card or Birth Certificate. See the New Hire Packet for a list of acceptable forms of ID. Also, please bring original transcripts (photocopies not accepted), completed physical and TB test, high school and college transcripts (ESP), NCLB Approval or Paraprofessional Letter of Approval and DS2/Referral Request Form. If you have any questions about the enrollment process, please call (773) 553-1142. Step 5 Complete a Physical Examination Form. Prior to becoming an ESP, a licensed physician must complete the physical examination on the Chicago Public Schools’ medical form. A TB skin test or chest x-ray must be performed in order to comply with Illinois State Law. If your physical examination is less than one year old, Employee Health Services may accept it. Please be sure to have your physician transfer the results to the CPS medical form. Be sure to bring your completed physical examination form with TB test results or chest x-ray results to the HR Employee Service Center-Enrollment Unit at the time of your appointment. Click here for a listing of City of Chicago Health Clinics. Click here for the CPS Employee Physical Examination Form. Step 6 Revisit the HR Employee Service Center - Enrollment Unit after five (5) business days, unless you are contacted by Employee Services. Please bring completed documentation. All paper work given to the new hire during the first visit must be returned to the enrollment coordinator. Once all documents are in order, the enrollment process will go very smoothly and can be completed in one step. If you have any questions about the enrollment process, please call (773) 553-1142. Education Requirements All ESP Paraprofessionals (under the job titles affected by the No Child Left Behind Act) must have an Associates Degree or higher, University Credit (at least 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours), Parapro Test (with a passing score of 460 or better), or WorkKeys Certificate (with math or reading scores of 4 or better, writing score of 3 or better and ISI score of acceptable or better). Official transcripts and high school diploma are required for the following job titles. Effective June 1, 2004, all Paraprofessional titles are required to obtain a No Child Left Behind Statement of Approval Form from the Illinois State Board of Education, 100 W. Randolph, Suite 14-200, Chicago, Illinois, (312) 814-8113 to complete enrollment. A set of official transcripts and high school diploma or assessment test scores are required to obtain this approval. All other ESP positions (technical services, special education, engineers, hearing and vision, etc.) will need to show certificates or licenses pertaining to their position. Please click here if you need to take the WorkKeys or Parapro Test. Note: The above forms are available in the Portable Document Format (PDF). Download the free Acrobat Reader plug-in if you cannot view PDF files. |
