Notice for All Substitute Teacher Applicants with a Degree in Fields Other Than Education
and Who Have Not Completed Student Teaching

The Chicago Public Schools (CPS), Office of Substitute Services will not have an open enrollment for the remainder of the 2009-2010 school year for individuals with a Bachelor's degree or higher in fields other than education, and who have not completed student teaching.

The Substitute Teacher Application is NOW CLOSED and will NOT OPEN for the School year 2009-2010 for Applicants With a Degree in Fields Other Than Education and Who Have Not Completed Student Teaching

Individuals interested in becoming a substitute teacher with the CPS must complete and successfully pass the SubAssessment, an online Substitute Teacher Training Program*, before initiating the application process for substitute teaching.

*About the SubAssessment Substitute Teacher Training Program

SubAssessment:

  • Is a web-based application, which must be completed online.
  • Requires a composite score of 85% to successfully pass the assessment.
  • Can be taken up to a maximum of 4 times.
  • Takes approximately 30-40 minutes to complete each section (5 sections in total).
